Meet ViewPoint Speaker Jim Lyon
In the spring of 1965, when I was twelve years old, I made a choice that still defines my life 40 years later: I chose to follow Christ.
ViewPoint speaker Jim Lyon grew up in Seattle, where he served as Associate and then Senior Pastor of the Fairview Church (1977-1991), a congregation of the Church of God (with general offices in Anderson, Indiana). Since 1991, he has served as Senior Pastor of the Madison Park Church of God (northeast of Indianapolis).
Lyon graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1974 (with a bachelor's degree in Political Science) then entered the University of Washington Law School. Always fascinated by politics and the public interest, he has worked in many civic and church-related fields, even completing a brief term as a member of the Washington State House of Representatives (1982).
But it is Christian ministry that owns his heart. It is the conviction that Jesus is at work in this world, redeeming, transforming, and perfecting us that has molded his life and vocation more than any other. Helping people see Jesus has become his life's work. Articulate pastor, teacher and motivational speaker, Jim is driven by a mission to carry the hope of Jesus to all people everywhere. "The church must be about the business of reclaiming the world for Christ. This radio ministry can penetrate beyond the front line of the battle in ways that most of us would never be able to do on our own."
Lyon and his wife, Maureen, have four sons (Jacob, Peter, Andrew and Nathanael). In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, jogging, and traveling. His interests cover a wide range of music (Prokofiev to Aretha Franklin) and reading (Bible, biographies, history, and current events). Chocolate ice cream is, sadly, his Achilles' heel.
Jim Lyon has been ViewPoint host/speaker since 1996.
